The PM-JANMAN Scheme, initiated by the Central Government last year as part of the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adiwasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan, is set to bring significant joy to beneficiaries. On Monday, January 15, the scheme will release the first installment to one lakh beneficiaries within the ambit of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).
Under the PM-JANMAN Scheme, a provision is made to provide 4.90 lakh permanent houses, each costing 2.39 lakh rupees, to eligible beneficiaries. The beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana receive government subsidies, making homeownership more accessible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally release the installment through a video conferencing session, during which he will also engage in discussions with the beneficiaries.
The primary objective of the scheme is to provide 4.90 lakh permanent houses to those falling within the purview of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. The cost per house is 2.39 lakh rupees, with the government offering subsidies to the beneficiaries. Prime Minister Modi is expected to interact with the beneficiaries during the video conferencing event.
The PM-JANMAN Scheme aims to reach 22,000 particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), numerous tribal settlements, and PVTG families in 200 districts across the country. For the financial years 2023-24 to 2025-26, the government has allocated a budget of 24,104 crores under the Development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (DPTVTG) scheme. This budget includes 15,336 crores from the central government and 8,768 crores from the states. Nine major ministries/departments are involved in the implementation of the scheme.
The beneficiaries of the PM-JANMAN Scheme will also enjoy the benefits of various central and state government schemes, such as the Ayushman Card, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, and Kisan Credit Card. The government’s efforts aim to extend the reach of these welfare programs to the identified vulnerable tribal groups, addressing their social, economic, and educational insecurities.
The 2011 census identified 10.45 crore people belonging to the Scheduled Tribes in India. Among them, 75 communities in 18 states and union territories, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, were specifically categorized as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. These PVTGs face challenges in various social, economic, and educational aspects, and the PM-JANMAN Scheme is designed to alleviate their struggles.
In conclusion, the PM-JANMAN Scheme is a crucial step towards addressing the housing needs of vulnerable tribal groups and ensuring their holistic development. The allocation of substantial funds reflects the government’s commitment to uplifting these communities and providing them with a better quality of life. As the first installment is disbursed, it marks a milestone in the implementation of the scheme, bringing tangible benefits to those in need. Prime Minister Modi’s direct involvement in the process, through video conferencing and personal interaction with beneficiaries, adds a personal touch to the government’s welfare initiatives. Overall, the PM-JANMAN Scheme stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to inclusive development and social justice.
